Spieker (twice), Glendenning, Churchill and Vicker are
Victorious at ACS
CORNING, IA (July 7) - It was Dodge night for the NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series at the Adams County Speedway Saturday night. It was also the third of
four races for the Nebraska-Iowa Challenger Series presented by Dodge with
double late model features. Chris Spieker and Paul Glendenning each captured a
Whelen late model win with Spieker also taking the Budweiser modified main
event. Steve Churchill and Ryan Vicker took the Northland Oil pro street and
NAPA hobby stock wins.
Jerod Weston staked claim to the early lead in the NAPA hobby stock feature and
held on for the first six laps until mechanical problems ended his night. The
lead then went to Brad Derry, but only for a few laps as Ryan Vicker quickly
moved to the front and went on to record his third victory of the season. Brad
Bergren, Matt Hudson, Derry and Jesse Sobbing rounded out the top five.
In the Northland Oil pro street feature, it was all Steve Churchill. After a
first lap incident, Churchill started third and wasted no time pulling to the
lowest line around the track and into the lead. Greg Miller followed and quickly
put himself into second, but there was no stopping Churchill from his third win
on the season with Miller, 21st starting Ron Ballinger, Tony Hardisty and Mike
Garner rounding out the top five.
Larry Foote jumped to the early lead in the Budweiser modified feature, then
spent a few laps fending off Ryan Peckham until Peckham finally was able to pull
out ahead of the field. Peckham then got into his own battle as Chris Spieker
moved up and earned to top spot after a back and forth battle with Peckham. Late
in the race, Jeff James moved to second and began reeling in Spieker but the
laps ran out before James could get to Spieker. Spieker and James were followed
to the finish by Peckham, Brian Foote and Jeremy Tibben.
In the first Whelen late model feature, it was Mike Whitehead who raced to the
early lead. Whitehead led until lap 9 when mechanical problems forced him out
and handed the lead to Jason O達rien. O達rien led until very late in the going,
when Chris Spieker moved in and wrestled the spot away. Spieker claimed his
sixth win of the season, followed by O達rien, Josh Most, Joe Kosiski and Karl
Ritterbusch.
The second Whelen late model feature saw Jamie Kinyon lead lap one as he raced
door to door with Ryan Vicker. But before they could complete lap 2, Paul
Glendenning dispatched of both front-runners and began to check out from the
field. By the time Joe Kosiski and Trent Jackson had moved to second and third,
Glendenning was too far gone to even see without a caution, and none ever came.
The win was Glendenning痴 first of the year with Kosiski, Jackson, Ritterbusch
and Spieker rounding out the top five.
