McKee, Carlson, Garner and Yearington (twice) are Best at
Adams County Speedway
CORNING, IA (Aug 4) - The Chase for the Championship has begun at the Adams
County Speedway for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. Todd McKee, Jerry
Carlson, Mike Garner and Kevin Yearington all picked up feature wins with
Yearington also taking the NAPA hobby stock King of the Hill presented by
Sunoco/Diamond Oil/Ironman Racing Supply.
Todd McKee jumped from his outside front row start in the Whelen late model
feature and raced to a comfortable lead. Paul Glendenning was the first to get
through traffic to try to get to McKee. Glendenning got the job done of reeling
in McKee, but ran out of laps to see if passing for the lead could be
accomplished. For McKee it was his first win on the season. Glendenning, Chris
Spieker, Karl Ritterbusch and Jason O’Brien rounded out the top five.
Jesse Dennis wiggled out of traffic quickly to take the lead in the Budweiser
modified feature. Jerry Carlson was the first to challenge Dennis for the lead
as he raced by after only a few laps. Carlson ran with a small lead until Chris
Spieker moved around the outside to take the top spot. Spieker would lead until
a couple of laps remained, when he slid too high in turn 3, giving the spot back
to Carlson. Carlson went on to his fourth win of the season ahead of Dennis,
Spieker, Ryan Peckham and Jeremy Tibben.
Les Helvie took early command of the Northland Oil pro street feature but it was
soon a battle between Greg Miller and Tony Hardisty for the lead. Miller and
Hardisty swapped the lead for a few laps until contact sent Miller spinning and
Hardisty to the tail of the field with Miller for the restart. This left a great
three car shootout over the last laps between Jeremy Swanson, Steve Churchill
and Mike Garner as they raced wheel to wheel until Garner was finally able to
secure the lead with only a few laps to go. For Garner, it was his first win on
the season and he was followed to the checkered by Swanson, Churchill, Ron
Ballinger and Chuck Hulett.
Jeremy Auten jumped to the early lead of the NAPA hobby stock feature. Kevin
Yearington and Brad Bergren came up to challenge Auten for the lead and
Yearington finally was able to race into the lead with only 5 laps remaining.
Yearington went on to his first win of the season followed by Bergren, Jesse
Sobbing, Auten and Brad Derry. Yearington capped off his evening by out-gunning
Matt Hudson in the final of the King of the Hill presented by Sunoco/Diamond
Oil/Ironman Racing Supply.
