2007 Adams County Speedway Champions Honored at Banquet

ATLANTIC, IA (Jan 27) - The 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season at the Adams County Speedway finally has a period at the end of it following the presentation of awards at the annual Champions Banquet held at the Cass County Community Center in Atlantic.

Matt Hudson was crowned the NAPA hobby stock champion for the first time following a season with six feature wins. Trophies were presented to all the top fifteen in points which was Hudson, Jesse Sobbing, Kevin Yearington, Tom Myers, Brad Derry, Cody Werner, Brad Bergren, Jeremy Auten, Chris Vannausdle, Pat Shiflett, Matt Williamson, Brent Ricker, David Weeda, Ryan Vicker and Rick Ritchie.

Mike Garner provided the most dramatic championship clinching moment of 2007 by going from third to first in the last two laps to win the final feature of the year and take a three-point margin over Ron Ballinger. The championship was Garner’s second consecutive and third overall. Garner and Ballinger were followed in the top fifteen by Steve Churchill, Jeremy Swanson, Greg Miller, Joe Zadina, A.J. Miller, Tony Hardisty, Todd Owens, Craig Garner, Les Helvie, Jeff Orr, Dwain Pelzer, Kevin Jobe and Scott Bond.

Jeremy Tibben captured his second consecutive Budweiser modified championship by winning three features and always finding the top five in his other finishes. Tibben was chased in points by Dan Mueller, Jerry Carlson, Russell Stewart, Jesse Dennis, Chris Hogan, Ryan Peckham, Kirby Stiens, Jeff James, Brian Foote, Todd Van Eaton, Larry Foote, Randy Foote, Richard Spriggs, and Kevin Bills.

Chris Spieker capped off a dominant season with his sixth championship in the Whelen late models after recording 12 feature wins. Spieker was followed in points by Karl Ritterbusch, Paul Glendenning, Jason O’Brien, Trent Jackson, Jeremy Houck, Josh Most, Ryan Vicker, Joe Kosiski, Jamie Kinyon, Scott Koskovich, Leon Zeitner, Al Zeitner, Troy McKee and Justin Zeitner.

Sponsorship appreciation plaques were presented to Whelen Engineering, Diamond Oil, Cellular 29 Plus, Doll Distributing, Iowa State Savings Bank, Dodge Dealers, Coca-Cola, Ironman Racing Supply, Northland Oil, and Keane Thummel Trucking. The area NAPA dealers were also recognized for their contributions to the NAPA hobby stock class.

Keane Thummel Trucking Best Appearing Car awards went to Ryan Vicker, Jared Stiens, Dwain Pelzer, and Brent Ricker.

Hampel Racing Most Improved Driver awards were presented to Trent Jackson, Ryan Peckham, Jeremy Swanson, and Cody Werner.

Hampel Racing Hard Charger awards went to Chris Spieker, Jeremy Tibben, Ron Ballinger and Matt Hudson.

Dodge Dealer’s Sportsmanship awards were presented to Trent Jackson, Chris Hogan, Ron Ballinger and Tom Myers.

KMA “This Week in Racing” presented the driver of the year award to Chris Spieker.

The Craftsman Gold Wrench Award was presented to David Spieker.

The Dodge Dealer’s Citizenship award was presented to the family of Steve Gibilisco in honor of Steve. Steve passed away from a heart attack while competing in the hobby stock B feature on September 1st of 2007.

Greg Hampel made the biggest announcement for the upcoming 2008 season. Everyone who purchases their NASCAR membership license by sending them through the Hampel Racing office will receive a coupon packet with 4 individual night grandstand passes and 4 food coupons courtesy of the Adams County Fair and Racing Association. These will be accompanied by gift coupons from various track sponsors for discounts on their products and services. More details will be released soon about this promotion.
