Mueller and Zeitner take Adams County Wins

CORNING, IA (Sept 14) - The 2008 Whelen All-American Series season for the Adams County Speedway is finally in the books. In fitting fashion for this season, it took an eight-day rain delay to run the final two features of the season. Dan Mueller and Leon Zeitner took the feature wins and Jeremy Tibben and Chris Spieker took home the track championships for the Budweiser modifieds and Whelen late models.

The Budweiser modified feature saw Keven Parman lead lap one only to be passed by Jesse Dennis. Dennis’ time up front was short-lived as Ryan Peckham charged to the lead using the top rim of the track. Peckham stretched his lead under green flag conditions but a caution with three laps to go bunched the field. On the restart, Dan Mueller was running second and Jeremy Tibben was fifth, which meant in those spots, Tibben would be the track champion. On the restart Mueller used the low line of the track to battle with Peckham and take the lead with Tibben still running fifth (with that running order, Mueller would be the champion). As Mueller pulled away to win his third feature of the season, Tibben needed one more spot to be the champion and he got it with a last lap pass of Jared Stiens. The final feature order was Mueller, Peckham, Dennis, Tibben and Stiens with Tibben winning his third straight Budweiser modified title by one point.

Mike Whitehead jumped to the early lead in the Whelen late model feature but that only lasted a lap as John Hampel and Karl Ritterbusch quickly took the top two spots. Hampel led two laps, then Ritterbusch took the spot for two laps before Hampel got the lead back and led until a midrace caution. As the caution flew Hampel pulled to the pit with a broken left rear suspension. On the restart Leon Zeitner charged by Ritterbusch and into the top spot which he would never give up as Zeitner raced away to a comfortable margin and his first win of the season. Ryan Vicker crossed the line second but failed post-race tech. Chris Spieker finished second and won his sixth straight and seventh overall championship. Paul Glendenning gave Spieker all he wanted in pursuit of the title and came back from a mid-race spin to third but lost the title by 5 points to Spieker. Whitehead and Jamie Kinyon rounded out the top five of the final feature of 2008.
