Spieker, Tibben, Churchill and Williamson honored at ACS
season champions
CORNING, IA (Jan 24, 2009) - The 2008 season for the NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series at the Adams County Speedway is officially over
as drivers, crews and officials gathered at the Cass County Community
Building in Atlantic to crown the champions as well as hand out other
season-ending awards. The top 15 in each class took home trophies.
In the Whelen late models, Chris Spieker was awarded his 7th championship in
the last 8 years. This year’s honors were only won after a hard-fought
battle with Paul Glendenning.
Jeremy Tibben took home his third straight Budweiser modified title which
came down to Tibben making a last lap pass for a position in the last
feature of the season to take the title over Dan Mueller, who had taken the
previous four titles.
Steve Churchill capped a dream season which began with him not having a car
to race by taking the Northland Oil pro street title. Churchill’s first ever
title came at the misfortune of Greg Miller who was poised to take his 8th
track title until a broken rotor sidelined him on the last lap of the season
finale.
Matt Williamson also became a first time NASCAR champion as he took the NAPA
hobby stock championship. Williamson entered the final night fourth in the
point standings and misfortune struck the top three in points which helped
Williamson get his title.
Hampel Racing hard charger awards were based on passing points in feature
events and those awards went to Chris Spieker, Jeremy Tibben, Greg Miller
and Matt Hudson.
Keane Thummel best appearing car awards were given out to Paul Glendenning,
Kirby Stiens, Kevin Sharp and Pat Shiflett.
Most improved driver awards presented by Hampel Racing were given to Jeremy
Hodapp, Alison Quick, Craig Garner and Rick Ritchie.
Dodge Dealer sportsmanship awards as voted by fellow drivers and officials
were awarded to Leon Zeitner, Dan Mueller, Joe Zadina and Matt Williamson.
The KMA “This Week in Racing” driver of the year was presented to Paul
Glendenning.
Sponsor recognition was given the the area Dodge Dealers, Ironman Racing
Supply, Northland Oil, Thummel Trucking, Iowa State Savings Bank, Diamond
Oil, Cellular 29 Plus, Whelen, and Doll Distibuting.
Following the announcement of the retirement of Hampel Racing, this marks
their end of 26 years of promotions at the Adams County Speedway with the
last 25 being NASCAR sanctioned. We thank everyone involved for 26 great
seasons in building the Adams County Speedway into one of the greatest
grassroots racing facilities in America. For details on the 2009 season, go
