Brandon Wimmer – Down by the Old Millstream!

(Bill W) September 1, 2009 – Brandon Wimmer and car owner Rick Ferkel found a couple of races last weekend to tune up for this week’s action with the All Star Circuit of Champions.  A seventh place finish at Attica, and a fourth place run at Millstream Speedway amongst car counts around the 30 mark were a good way to head into this weekend.  The All Stars will visit Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, PA) on Friday, Attica (OH) on Saturday and the Hilltop Speedway (Millersburg, OH) on Sunday.

Saturday’s race at Attica Raceway Park attracted 27 of the area’s best, and Brandon ran from fifth to third in his heat.  “The car was running pretty well there in the heat,” says the Fairmount, Indiana driver.  “We were able to move up a few spots.  We’ve been using a new J&J since our wreck at Oskaloosa.”

The redraw went predictably.  “Of course, we drew 11 out of 12,” says Brandon.  “We got going in the feature, and I about spun out once.  We were getting tight, and I had to jerk the steering back to get loose again.  With that happening, being able to finish was big and you can’t complain about moving forward a few spots.”

Brandon ended the event in the seventh spot, and afterwards, a problem was detected in the steering.  “I kept telling Rick (Ferkel), ‘It’s tight on the right rear,’” says Brandon.  “He was adjusting that, but all along, it was a problem with the steering.”

A special event at the Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio greeted 27 drivers on Sunday night.  Again starting fifth in his heat, Brandon improved his position again.  “The lights going out made things a long night, but we were running well,” he says.  “We made it up to second in the heat, and they inverted things, so we started fifth in the feature.”

Some different track conditions were in the offing, and Brandon posted fifth in the main event.  “The track was slick, but rough at the same time,” he says.  “It was interesting.  After (Tim) Shaffer broke, we were up to second.  I screwed up on the restart, and I went high when I should have been low.  That cost us a couple spots.”

A solid fourth place finish was the final result.  “We fell back to fifth at one time, but got a spot back and ended up fourth,” says Brandon.  “We probably should have ended up second or third, but at least we figured out what our problems were with the steering before we hit the three shows with the All Stars this week.”

Brandon and Rick Ferkel would like to thank the following sponsors for all their help: Shorty’s Truck Repair, Smith’s Farm, Goodyear Tires, Griff’s Engines, Kear’s Speed Shop, Huggins Cams, BRODIX Heads, Barnes Oil Pumps, Prism Lubricants, Zeis Land Development, Butlerbuilt, Simpson, Winning With Wellness and WRT Web Designs.
