(Bill W) September 22, 2009 – Jesse “The Rocket” Hockett hit “Blackjack” with win #21 on the season last Saturday night, and with the 21st in his career at the Double X Speedway in California, Missouri. The win came in the Jesse Hockett Racing #77, but he will bring out the VKCC Motorsports/Tom Buch #13 out for the first time in several weeks this weekend for action in Illinois and Missouri. It was Season Championship night at the Double X Speedway with a special event on Saturday. The Winged Outlaw Warriors were competing up the road in Moberly, so the field was slim at both venues. “There weren’t too many cars, because Moberly (24 Raceway) was running at the same time,” says Jesse. “We were able to start up front in the heat (which he won), and the car was working well.” Starting up front in the feature, there was little doubt that it would be tough to defuse “The Rocket”, especially with rival Randy Martin suffering mechanical difficulties. “I don’t know what it is about the place, but it just suits my style so well,” says Jesse. “It helps to start up front, and get out there and run, but we have been really good there lately.” With a relatively early finish, Jesse had thoughts of two features in one night. “We packed up the car really fast at Double X, because Moberly was running way behind,” he says. “We loaded up, and headed that direction to see if we could start in the back of the feature. We got within ten miles of the track, and they pushed off the sprint cars for the main, so we turned around and went home.” Last weekend’s light schedule allowed Jesse and the team time to work on their new shop. “We’ve been working hard on the new shop, and we’ll be able to work in there really soon,” he reports. “We worked on it over the weekend, so that’s why we stayed close to home this week.” This weekend will be different. With $7,100 going to the winner of the Shaheen’s Blast from the Past 410 feature at the Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, Jesse will be on hand Friday. The VKCC Motorsports/Tom Buch team will then compete for the first time with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series since the Knoxville 360 Nationals. The race will be held at the Lucas Oil Speedway near Wheatland, Missouri. “It’ll be a busy weekend, as far as changing motors and a little travel, but it will feel good to get back in the groove a little,” says Jesse.
