Brian Brown – Back to South Texas!

(Bill W) April 2, 2010 – The trip to south Texas worked good the first time, so why not do it again?  The Brian Brown Racing FVP #21 team is back in the Lone Star State for this weekend’s ASCS-Gulf South action in Beaumont and Baylands.   Both events carry a winner’s share of $3,000.

Tonight the series takes to the Golden Triangle Raceway Park near Beaumont.  Brian had a top ten finish there early in March in his first outing of the year.  The next night, he tasted victory at Battleground Speedway near Highlands.  “We had some success the last time we were down there in the Houston area,” says the Grain Valley, Missouri native.  “We were decent at Beaumont, and then we were able to win at Battleground.”

Tomorrow night the series will move over to Houston Raceway Park near Baylands.  Unfortunately, Brian had been planning to get a race in there with the World of Outlaws in March, but motor issues in Kilgore sidelined him for that weekend.  He appreciates the opportunity to get this early action in.  “Early in the year, with the level of competition that is down here…it will make us stronger when we go back home,” he says.  “Everyone else is just getting their stuff out in a couple weeks.”

The events this weekend should be just that.  In Beaumont, an Easter Egg Hunt is planned an hour before the races are scheduled to start tonight.  A big crowd is expected at Houston Raceway Park tomorrow night, as fans can call 281-383-7223 for FREE tickets!  “Baytown should be rocking,” says Brian.  “They’re letting in all the fans for free, so it will be fun to race in front of that kind of crowd.  We’re looking forward to familiarizing them with FVP.”

Last weekend, some rare time off was welcome.  “One of my best friends had his birthday, but other than that it was pretty low key,” says Brian of the weekend.  “I did get the movie ‘Brothers’ watched, and I give it four stars (out of five?).”

Downtime is not good for Brian, however.  “We’re excited to get back at it, especially with the night we had at Devil’s Bowl,” he says.  “Unfortunately, it seems when you have a night like that, that you have a break afterwards.”

It’s been “so far, so good” in 2010.  “I’ve been really excited about our start,” says Brian.  “To get the win early for FVP and the rest of our partners was big.  I can’t say how much they mean to the program, and we’re hoping to take $6,000 back with us this weekend and get them to victory lane.”

Brian's Q&A

Eddie Roach asks: The Knoxville Nationals will go 50 laps this year.  What do you think?

Brian answers: I know it’s the 50th, but 50 laps doesn’t quite seem like a sprint car race to me.  I have to respect the fans, and it is what they voted for though.  I’ve seen a lot of 30 lappers over the years that had me on the edge of my seat.  Fifty laps put so many variables in with the tires and everything else…it makes it into a bit of an endurance race rather than a sprint.

Brown's Bits

This week in 2005, Brian won with the Eagle Sprint Touring Series at the Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Nebraska.  The win came in dramatic fashion, as Brian had started 12th in the field.  In turn two on the final lap, he shot around leader Chad Humston to take the win.  Don Droud Jr. was third ahead of Jason Danley and the late Steve King.
