By: Tony Paris

BLOOMFIELD, Ia. (April 15, 2006) - A new year and new look at the Mountain-Dew Bloomfield Speedway with five classes in action under the Casey's General Stores USRA sanctioning. With temps in the eighty's the racing action was just a hot with two drivers winning there first ever feature wins. The racing surface was nice and smooth with all the track prep and the widening of the racing surface making for four and five wide excitement.

The first feature of the night was the Kirkland Auto USRA hobby stock feature with twenty-eight cars checked in for action. With one try to get a lap in the red flag was out for Steve Hawkins of Cincinnati making contact with the outside wall and rolling on the front-stretch and Lance Meyer of Ottumwa also involved. Both drivers were okay but the cars having heavy damage. On the second try Jason McDaniel of Eldon took the early race lead and paced the field before Nathan Wood of Sigourney, Mark Moore of Ottumwa and Steve Allen of Oskaloosa all closed on the leader. Wood would make the pass in turns three and four with McDaniel regaining the position in turn one and two. This brought the crowed to there feet with two laps remaining McDaniel used the lap car to his advantage winning his second straight win in 2006. Wood took the runner-up spot followed by Moore in third and Allen in fourth.

In the Hougland Repair Shop USRA stock car division Bobby Greiner Jr. of Ottumwa took the early race lead and lead till a left rear tire went flat causing Greiner to spin with five laps remaining in the eighteen lap event. This would turn the lead over to last years track champion Mike Robinson of Moravia and Ryan Cook of WestPoint running second. On the restart Greiner would make his way from the work area to the tail of the feature. Robinson and Michale McClure of Floris and Cook battled for the topspot but Greiner would marched his way to the front taking the second spot but the white flag flew with Greiner putting pressure on the backend of Robinsons machine but Robinsion held off the late charge to take the win. Greiner took the second spot with Cook in third and Mike Harward of Floris in fourth after starting fourteenth.
