MOUNTAIN DEW BLOOMFIELD SPEEDWAY WINNERS CIRCLE
BLOOMFIELD, Ia (May 19, 2006) - A big turnout in the pit area and a hearty crowd
were on hand for another Fast Track Friday Night at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield
Speedway featuring the USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series plus the
second visit of the season by the Mid America 305 Winged Sprints.
In the Hornet class, Dale Porter of Floris picked up the main event win with Tom
Irwin of Bloomfield, Larry Hopkins of Ottumwa, Curtis Barnes of Greentop, Mo.,
and Kevin Garrett of Bloomfield rounding out the top five finishers. Heat wins
went to Irwin and Hopkins.
The Kirkland Auto USRA Hobby Stocks saw USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly
Racing Series national points leader Nathan Wood of Sigourney take down another
win at the Bloomfield, Iowa, speedplant. Oskaloosa's Steve Allen finished in the
runner-up position, followed by Paul Underwood of Ottumwa, Robby Sands of
Centerville and Derek Kirkland of Centerville. Heat wins were taken down by Jim
Sulser of Centerville, Wood and Ray Lasser Jr. of Ottumwa.
Tony Dunker of Quincy, Ill., topped the USRA B-Modified field, with Chris
Leathers of Macon, Mo., in second, Jeff Waterman of Quincy, Ill., third, and
Kelly Smith of Kirksville, Mo., in fourth.
The Hougland's Repair Shop USRA Stock Cars saw defending track champion Mike
Robinson of Moravia take the checkers, followed by Jason Cook of Mt. Pleasant,
Colt Mather of Webster, Mike Harward of Bloomfield and Knoxville's Pat Rachels.
Oskaloosa's Howard Gordon Jr., Mather and Chris Hawkins of Drakesville were
victorious in the heat races.
Spilman Auto Parts USRA Modified action saw Bloomfield's Jim Lynch score his
first win of the season as he held off Travis Patch of Holton, Kan. Patch, who
races regularly at Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kan., made the trek to "The
Dew" as he continues a quest for a national title in the USRA Casey’s General
Stores Weekly Racing Series. bob Dale of Gorin, Mo., finished third in Friday's
main event, followed by Casey Lancaster of Glenwood, Mo., and Jerry Pilcher of
Bloomfield. Heat wins went to Lynch and Mike Bennett of Des Moines.
The second appearance of the season by the Mid America 305 Winged Sprint Cars
capped off the evening, and Steve Breazeale of Trenton, Mo., raced to victory.
Marty Stephenson of Mitchellville grabbed the runner-up spot, while third place
went to Matt Stephenson of Des Moines. Finishing fourth was Brian Ridge of
Ottumwa, while Kevin Tanner of Russell completed the top five finishers. Heat
race checkers waved for Matt Stephenson and Tanner.
Next Friday, Karr Collision Center and Jim Lynch Farms present the USRA Casey’s
General Stores Weekly Racing Series featuring five fast & furious classes,
including Spilman Auto Parts Modifieds, Hougland's Repair Shop Stock Cars,
B-Mods, Kirkland Auto Hobby Stocks and Kollision Korner Hornets.
Admission is $9 for adults, with juniors (ages 13-18) and seniors (62 and older)
admitted for $7. Kids 12 and under get in FREE. Pit passes are $20. Gates open
at 5 p. m., with hot laps at 7:15 and racing at 7:30. Call (515) 832-6000 for
