JONES TAKES FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN AND MATHER SECOND STRAIGHT AT
BLOOMFIELD
By:Tony Paris
BLOOMFIELD, IA (June 23, 2006) - A beautiful evening for the second part of the
season with night number eleven was held at the Mountain-dew Bloomfield Speedway
sponsored by Karr Collision Center of Bloomfield and Elmer Wood Co. of Moulton
with seventy-four cars checked in for action, this made for some very exciting
racing action in all four classes. The chase for the track championship and the
Casey`s General Stores National points heated up with the USRA Stock Car and
USRA Hobby Stocks having the current national hobby stock point leader in action
along with the top four in the USRA Stock Car division on hand.
The first feature of the night was the Hougland Repair Shop USRA Stock Car division going eighteen laps with Troy Alexander of Memphis,Mo. and Mike Robinson of Moravia leading the field to the green flag. Robinson and Alexander would battle for the race lead for the first four laps wheel-to-wheel and door-to-door each not giving a inch. The two drivers would thrill the crowd but rookie driver Colt Mather of Webster and Ryan Cook of West Point would make for a four car battle for the race lead. Mather took the race lead on lap eight after starting tenth. Mather and Ryan Cook would swap the lead two diffrent times on lap twelve and thirteen before Mather would pull away by two car lenght for the win making in two in a row at Bloomfield and also picking up the win on Wedensday nighty at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. Pat Rachels of Knoxville would put pressure on the 27r car with three laps remaining and made the pass on the bottom for the second spot with Ryan Cook in third and brother Jason Cook of Mt. Pleasent taking fourth with a three car battle, between Phil McClure, Jim Lynch and Jason Cook. If this the tune-up for next weeks $1000 to win stock car show the fans will be getting there moneys worth with this class as it`s always a thriller when the stock cars roll onto the track.
In the Kollision Korner Hornet divsion Brent Hartley of Niota,Il. and Curtis Barnes of Greentop,Mo. leading the field to the green for the eight lap feature event. Hartley would take the race lead off turn two with Matt Moore and Larry Hopkins of Ottumwa battling for the second spot but Tom Irwin of Bloomfield would make it a three car battle for the lead with Irwin taking the lead on lap four and lead the final four laps for the win. Hartley settled for the runner-up spot followed by Hopkins in third and last weeks winner Dale Porter of Floris in fourth.
The Kirkland Auto USRA Hobby Stock feature had it`s ups and downs with Jim sulser of Centerville leading fourteen and 3/4 of the race and looked to have his first ever win in hand but the bad luck struck again and Sulser`s drive shaft would come flying out from under the car and would settle for the third spot after coasting across the start finish line. Ben Jones hand this race handed to him and keep the streak alive with his fourth straight win at Bloomfield. The current point leader and national USRA point leader Nathan wood worked his way from nineth and crossed the line in second with Sulser in third and Dustin Griffiths taking fourth.
This week the USRA hobby stock drivers will battle for $400 to win the hobby stock challenge with several drivers expected to run for the big money.
Our fourth and fianl feature of the night was the Spilman Auto Parts USRA Modified feature going twenty laps with two seasoned veterans leading the field to the green flag. Tony Fraise and Mark Burgtorf battled for the first six laps with the drivers swapping the lead several times before Burgtorf would take the lead and crusie to the checkers with Fraise taking second holding off last weeks winner Jared Durbin who race his way from the eleventh starting spot and Brad Pinkerton of New Sharon taking fourth after starting nineth.

Mountain-Dew Bloomfield Speedway with the Mid-America 305 Winged Sprints back in
