By: Tony Paris

BLOOMFIELD, IA (July 7, 2006) - The Casey`s General Stores USRA Weekly Racing Series continued with night number thirteen at the always exciting Mountain-Dew Bloomfield Speedway with five classes in action. The young race fans had the chance to win prizes from the Junior Fan Club along with the always fun candy dash with over 20,000 pieces of candy sponsored by Wood Racing out of Sigourney.

In the first feature of the night the Hougland Repair Shop USRA Stock Cars battled it out for eighteen laps of door-to-door action with three and sometimes four wide racing action with Mike Robinson of Moravia leading the first lap and would try to hold off Matt Greiner of Washington who would make the pass on the bottom of turn two for the lead. The two drivers would swap the lead and soon it would be four cars all battling for the top spot with Ryan Cook along with Colt Mather joining in on the battle for the front and Pat Rachels would also try his luck running the topside of the speedway and make for a very interesting battle with only three laps remaining caution would fly for Tyler McClure spinning in turn four. This would make for a three lap shootout with Jason Cook making the pass on Matt Greiner going ito turn one and lead the final three laps for the win. Greiner would take the second spot with Harward in third and Mather taking fourth.
The second feature of the night was the Spilman Auto Parts USRA Modifieds with the fans getting to see a up and coming star in the modifieds work his way from the eight starting position to take the lead from Dennis Elliott of Mt.Ayr who lead the first six laps of the twenty lap feature. Banks would work the bottom-side of the racing surface to advance to his 22 machine to the front with Tony Fraise of Donnellson following right behind after starting seventh. The two drivers would swap the lead around the fast 3/8 mile speedway and bring the crowd to its feet several times with Fraise trying everything to put pressure on the young driver but Banks never made a mistake and held off a always tough Fraise. This was Banks first win at the Bloomfield Speedway and third ever feature win. Fraise took a close second with another Washington driver Steve Stewart taking third and Jerry Pilcher racing his way from twelveth to a fourth place finish.

In the Kollision Korner Hornet feature Larry Hopkins of Ottumwa and Gene Irwin of Bloomfield lead the field to the green for ten laps of action. The two drivers would battle for the lead but David Probasco of Moulton would take the lead on lap four and his brand new car was very fast but the red flag would fly when Curtis Barnes of Greentop,Mo. would bet upside down in turn one and would also collect the 12 machine of Matt Moore of Ottumwa. This would setup a three lap race to the checkers with Dale Porter making the pass on lap eight with Ryan Yahnke of Bloomfield bring out a new car and would battle for the lead with Porter but Porter held off Yahnke for the win. Yahnke would take second with Tom Irwin taking third after starting seventh and Probasco slipping back to fourth.
The third appearance of the Keith`s Foods Late Models at the Mountain-Dew Bloomfield Speedway with Tommy Elston of Keokuk taking the lead and would pilot the 45 machine till lap fifteen before mechanical problems would end his run to the checkers. This would turn the lead over to first time visitor Paul Glendenning of Mt. Ayr who would hold off Chris Smyser of Lancaster,Mo. for the win. Smyser took second with Gordy Grubb of Oskaloosa in third and Chris Fontana of Pella in fourth.

Our final feature of the night was the Kirkland Auto USRA Hobby Stock Feature going fifteen laps with Jim Sulser of Centerville and Ray Lasser Jr. of Ottumwa leading the field to the green. Lasser would take the lead on lap one but would spin his machine in turn two on the second lap but was lucky enough to have everyone miss his machine setting in the middle of the track. Sulser along with Jim Walker of Mystic would battle for the lead before Walker would take the lead. The 42 machine of Ben Jones would work the topside of the speedway and take the lead off turn four. Nathan Wood of Sigourney would race his 52 machine from eleventh to second and try to close the gap between him and Jones. The caution flag flew for Lance Meyer`s machine spinning off turn four and crashing into the billboard sponsors. This would setup a green, white and checker shootout with Jones holding off Wood for his fifth win at the Mountain-Dew Bloomfield Speedway in 2006. Wood took a close second with Walker in third and Danny Thrasher of Agency and Cory Brown of Ottumwa battling for the fourth spot with Thrasher taking fourth and Brown taking fifth after starting twelveth.
