BLOOMFIELD, IA (June 5) - For the fourth week race cans was treated to some awesome and close racing action sponsored by Crop Services of Drakesville. All five weekly classes took to the always fast 3/8 mile speedway for fast track Friday action. In the first feature of the night the USRA a-modifieds with Colt Mather of Webster leading all six laps for his second win of the 2009 season. The battle for second between Scott Dickey and Dennis Elliott and Porter Collins made for some two and three wide racing with Dickey powering his Larry Shaw Chassis to the second spot but just couldn’t catch Mather. Elliott was running third till Brandon Banks of Washington made it a two car battle with Elliott on the high-side and back on the low-side this battle came down to the final turn with Banks making the pass for third and Elliott taking fourth. In the Kirkland Auto USRA hobby stock features, the drivers got the opportunity to get a extra $50.00 bonus if the could stop the hottest driver at the Bloomfield Speedway, Derek Kirkland of Centerville who has won three straight wins. The bounty money was put up by the owner of the new semi-pro football team out of Ottumwa the Bridge City Knights with owner and racer Tom Lathrop. The front row was Don Nunnikhoven and Nathan Wood who raced side-by-side for the first seven laps before Kikrland who started tenth made it a three car battle. The caution would fly on lap eleven for a car setting in turn three and four under the caution Wood’s machine was showing sparks off the left front and the tech inspector checked the car and found it was a bent a-frame and was able to continue. On the restart with three laps remaining you had to know it was going to get exciting and the final three laps was three and four wide with Wood leading but Kirkland, Nunnikhoven and Dustin Griffiths all wanted the lead with Griffiths making the pass off of turn two and held off the challenges off of turn for taking the win. Kirkland crossed the line in second with Nunnikhoven in third and Wood in fourth. After the feature Tony Teninty of Eldon claimed the winning motor of Griffiths and Griffiths refused to sell leading to a disqualification and Kirkland was awarded the extra $50.00 and keeps the streak alive with four in a row. The Kollision Korner 4 cylinder min-stock feature saw a pair of brothers battle for the lead with Jim Garrett of Ottumwa take the lead over Kevin of Bloomfield. Jim Garrett was hoping for back-to-back wins but Mike Fisher of Bloomfield who took the season opener checkers made the pass on lap eight and took the win. The battle for third was a good one with Eli Mast of Drakesville and Larry Hopkins of Ottumwa battling for the third spot with Mast in third and Hopkins in fourth. The action was only stopped one time with Moravia driver Brandt Robinson getting his machine upside-down in turn two. Brandt was not hurt and the car received some roof damage. The Taylor Automotive USRA stock cars saw Kyle Harwood of Oskaloosa and Matt Griener of Washington battle for the lead with Greiner taking his second win of the 2009 at the track with Harwood in second followed by Nathan wood in third and fourth going to Chris Hawkins of Drakesville who was later disqualified for a illegal carburetor this moving Terry Rachels of Knoxville up to the fourth spot. The final feature of the night was the Pepsi-Cola USRA b-modifieds with Mike Shelton of Bloomfield and Andrew Schroeder of Keswick battle for the lead with Schroeder taking the lead and Shelton running second and Rocky Fosdyck in fourth. Last weeks winner Jason McDaniel would race his way from the tenth spot to battle with Shelton for the second spot. The caution flag would fly setting up a six lap shootout with Schroeder trying to hold of Shelton and McDaniel. On the restart McDaniel took the bottom with Shelton on the topside and Schroeder taking the middle and McDaniel made the pass off turn two with Scroeder holding on to the second spot and Shelton taking the third spot. The battle for fourth saw Carter Vandenberg of Oskaloosa and Mystic driver Jim Walker battle for the fourth spot on the final lap with Walker taking fourth and Vandenberg in fourth. Next week’s action will feature all five weekly classes and the Mid-America 305 sprints returning for the second time with sixteen cars in action on the last appearance with Burlington driver Bobby Mincer taking the win. The action will heat up with hot laps at 7:00pm and racing action to follow at 7:30 at the Mountain-Dew Bloomfield Speedway.
