FOUR NEW FACES IN WINNERS CIRCLE AT CJ RACEWAY
COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Ia, (May 19, 2006) - Alex Buffington, Dustin Bliven, Rod
Staats, and Kevin Kile mad their first trips to victory lane in 2006. David
Schrier took out over 100 feet of fencing along the front stretch ending the
late model feature on the white flag and postponing the CJ Cruiser feature until
next week. Friday, May 26th will start out with the CJ Cruiser feature followed
by a regular nights racing with trophies sponsored by Rumors & Excuses.
The four cylinder feature was off to a slow start with multiple cautions as 16
cars fought for the lead on the first lap. With the first lap completed it was
Alex Buffington in the lead with Wayne Noble in second and TJ Garrison in third.
Brian Tipps took third on lap four and advanced to second by lap 5. One lap
later and TJ Garrison made it around Wayne Noble for third. At the checkers
Buffington picked up his first feature win of 2006 with Tipps in second and TJ
Garrison in third. Wayne Noble has the point lead.
Jeremy Tompkins, Brian Holmes, and Mark Winkel were out front on the hobby stock
feature when a caution was thrown for Michael Frank III in turn 3 while Doug
Eichelberger lost his rearend in turn 2. Jeremy Tompkins pitted during the
caution for a flat tire, turning the lead over to Brian Holmes on the restart.
However, Mark Winkel and Dustin Bliven made their way around on the restart with
Winkel in first and Bliven in second. On lap 6 Mike Cassabaum passed Brian
Holmes for third going down the backstretch and into turn 3. On lap 7 Bliven
passed Winkel coming out of turn 2 for the lead. Bliven held on to pick up his
first feature win of the season with Winkel taking second and Cassabaum third.
Mike Rees has the point lead.
Rod Staats and Shelly Mizell pulled away from the pack in the IMCA feature with
a battle going on for third between Tad Payne and Aaron Summy. Payne held the
third place spot for the first 8 laps with Summy taking it on lap 9 coming out
of turn 2. Three laps later Summy went high going through turn 4 and Payne went
under to take the third place spot back. At the checkers Staats has his first
win of the season with Mizell in second and Payne in third. Payne maintains the
point lead.
Kevin Kile took the point in the late model feature with Matt Bodman in second
and Ron Boyse quickly taking third. Kile held off the pack while Bodman and
Boyse fought for second. David Schrier was making his debut in a late model
taking the white flag with his car climbing up the fence for over 100 feet,
flipping over, and coming to rest on its top. Schrier was okay, but with the
fence gone, the races were over for the night. Kile picked up his first 2006
win, Bodman takes second with Boyse in third. Jeff Guengerich and Hal Russell
are tied with the point lead.
Friday, May 26 trophies wil be sponsored by Rumors & Excuses and the final CJ
Raceway Relay For Life Favorite Driver Contest will be held for the CJ Cruisers.
