COLUMBUS JUNCTION, IA – (May 28, 2010) – Race fans kicked off Memorial Day Weekend Friday, May 28 at the Louisa County race track, CJ Speedway, with the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders taking on the 4/10 mile. Also competing were IMCA Stock Cars, 4 Cylinders and Mod Lites. CJ Houseman, Norwalk, Iowa, went home with the $1200 to win prize the 360 sprint feature. Houseman took the lead from his front row start in the twenty car field and led the way for twenty laps taking the checkered flag. Behind Houseman, Joe Beavers, Knoxville, Ia and Donnie Steward, West Burlington would battle for the second spot with Beavers winning the battle. Brian Holmes, Wapello got his first IMCA Stock Car win this year topping the eighteen car feature field. Holmes had to work to hold off Nathan Wood, Keswick the remaining five laps of the fifteen lap race holding on to win by 3 car lengths. Wood would finish second followed b Tad Payne, Muscatine, Finke, Columbus Junction and Darrin Ealey, Wapello rounding out the top five. Muscatine’s Troy Phillpott hadn’t planned on racing Friday night but a last minute decision paid off. Phillpott took the lead from Jeff Miller, Davenport with five laps to go and held on through a couple of cautions late in the race to get his first win this season. Justin Bucholz passed Miller on the white flag lap to finish second followed by Dustin Schram who finished third. Miller settled for fourth with David Norton rounding out the top five. Wapello’s Geoff Theobald took the lead on lap two of the eight lap feature and would pull away from the field on his way to his first 4 cylinder feature win this season. The battle for second would be won by Tyler whalne, Riverside followed by JoshNohror, Jonah Smith and Cory Sheetz.
