COLUMBUS JUNCTION, IA
(September 3) - Season Championship Night and the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint
Invaders closed out the 2010 season at Louisa County’s CJ Speedway provided
a variety of action as well as crowning the champions for 2010. Winners
included Jason Hartman, Muscatine (hobby stocks), Geoff Theobald, Wapello (4
cylinders), Justin Buchholz, Pleasant Hill (Mod Lites) and Nathan Wood,
Keswick (IMCA Stock Cars) as well as Ben Wagoner, Emden, Il. who took the
checkered flag in the Sprint Invaders 360 sprint feature. With the final
race of the year track champions were also decided with this year’s
champions including Lane Kauffman, Muscatine (hobby stocks), Justin
Buchholz, Pleasant Hill, Il., (mod lites), Bill Whalen, Riveside (4
cylinders), and Nathan Wood, Keswick (IMCA Stock Cars). Wood will go on to
represent CJ Speedway in the Race of Champions at this week’s Boone IMCA
Supernationals. Daniel Brockert would win the modified season championship
title following their season championship night on Aug. 27. Nathan Wood took the
checkered flag for the second time this season in the IMCA Stock Car
division to clinch him the track championship for 2010. Lined up for the
feature race by points, Wood took advantage of his front row start and would
pull away early in the fifteen car field with Wapello’s Kirk Kinsley
following. With three laps to go the yellow flag would come out to close the
field on the restart and giving Kinsley a shot at the lead. But Wood proved
why he is in the chase for the IMCA Stock Car Rookie of the Year title again
pulling away at the end for the win. Through Sept. 1, Wood is tied for
second with Kenneth Hansen, both with 1070 points, just six points behind
Matt Speckman with 1076. Bill Whalen,, Riverside and
Geoff Theobald, Wapello, battled back and forth throughout the 15 lap,
sixteen car race racing side by side, bumper to bumper and exchanging
positions several times. With just two laps to go, the two were side by side
on the back stretch. On the final lap Theobald would pull ahead to edge out
Whalen for the win. Darrin Smith followed to finish a close third. Two wins by Pleasant Hill’s
Justin Buchholz, the second on season championship night, helped the
Pleasant Hill, Il. Driver to a Mod Lite points championship. Buchholz took
the early lead in the sixteen car field and would never be seriously
challenged as he and Rob Guss would pull away from the field. Buchholz had
comfortable lead would take the take checkered flag for the win. Jason Hartman, Muscatine,
won his second hobby stock feature holding off Alex Buffington, Wapello for
the win. Hartman led from start to finish for the win, but it would be Lane
Kauffman, Muscatine, who with his three wins, would take the track
championship for 2010. Ben Wagoner took both the
dash and Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invader feature at CJ Speedway in Columbus
Junction Friday night, Sept. 3 to cap off the track’s season.
Wagoner in the
Brian Wagoner owned 84 started on the pole along side Dave Hall of the 20
lap feature and took home his 2nd win of the 2010 season leading from start
to finish. Matt Sutton finished 2nd after starting 11th to take the hard
charger award. Wagoner and Hall originally
were to start in the second row behind Bobby Mincer and Russ Hall, but
Mincer would have car problem, unable to make the show and Hall would slow
and come to a stop on the start of the first lap taking him out of the
competition. Series point leader Kaley Gharst would have to borrow a car to
compete in the feature race when his car blew an engine during hot laps.
