COLUMBUS JUNCTION, IA (May
9, 2011) - The second night of racing action at CJ Speedway was completed
Friday, May 6 with three drivers getting their first wins and two getting
repeat wins. Travis Finke, Columbus Junction (stock cars), Bill Whalen,
Riverside (4 cylinders) and Mike Hughes, Oskaloosa (hobby stocks) all took
the checkered flag for the first time this season at CJ while Steve Stewart,
Burlington (modifieds) and Jason Masengarb, Colona, Il. (mod lites) went to
the winners circle for the second straight week. The IMCA Stock Cars put on an exciting show for the fans with Travis Finke inching out a win over Kirk Kinsley in the fifteen lap feature. Fifteen cars started the race with Lane Kauffman and Finke on the front row. Finke quickly took the lead holding off Billy Faler early on. By mid race, Nathan Wood was able to get by Finke for the lead but a caution came out and the field reverted to the last completed lap giving Finke the lead again. Wood again would take the lead from Finke on lap seven but would suddenly slow and come to a stop in turn four bringing out the yellow flag two laps later. Finke regained his lead and this time had to battle with Kirk Kinsley. The two put on a show for the crowd the final six laps racing bumper to bumper. Kinsley pulled along side Finke on the final lap coming out of turn three and the two raced down the front stretch side by side. Finke edged out the win by a nose to take the win. Steve Stewart had little
trouble getting his second win of the season taking the checkered flag for
the second straight week. Stewart took the lead from his third row start by
lap four following a caution and never looked back. Alex Buffington would
follow in second. A another nice field of Mod
Lites took to the track with thirteen cars starting the ten lap feature. Dan
Keltner and Blake Woodruff would set the pace with Jason Masengarb taking
the lead on the first lap from his second row start. Keltner wouldn’t be
able to catch Masengarb till late in the race pulling within 2 cars length
as the raced down the back stretch. Keltner’s late race surge would not be
enough as Masengarb took the checkered by a cars length over Keltner for the
win. After car problem hit Bill
Whalen last week, he would come back this week to take the checkered flag
for the first time this season. Whalen took the lead from his front row
start and never looked back. John Whalen would finish second and Jason
Delzell took third in the ten lap race. Mike Hughes, Oskaloosa, took
the checkered flag in the hobby stock feature. Point races will continue
next week, Friday, May 13 with five classes in action including IMCA Stock
Cars, Modifieds, IMCA 4 C ylinders and 9 to 1 Hobby Stocks. There will be a
Trophy Dash for All Classes! CJ Speedway Fri., May 6
