Neal Comes Through with Deery Win
by Ed Potter
MAQUOKETA, Ia (April 15, 2006) - Saturday the Deery Brothers Summer Series IMCA
Late Models made thier annual visit to Jackson County Speedway with forty-two
late models on hand. Despite breezy and cloudy skies the program got completed.
Pole sitter, Jeff Aikey charged off into the lead of the fifty lap feature and
had everything under control for the first half of the race.
By lap twenty-six Terry Neal and Rob Toland had worked up to right behind the
leader. Then it looked like a big caution was going to come. The leader had
worked up to lap a car when the car they were approaching got sideways, jamming
everything and everyone up. Somehow all the cars kept moving with Terry Neal
taking over the point, over Toland and Aikey. Two laps later the caution did fly
putting all twenty-two cars back on the lead lap.
On the restart Neal held on for the lead with Toland and Aikey in hot pursuit.
At the finish they were still in that order with Jay Johnson taking furth and
Mike Smith fifth. Heat race wins went to Boone McLaughlin, Neal, Johnson, Smith
and Andy Nezworski. The consi's were won by Ron Gustaf and Daqle Stolte.
The B Modified feature was action packed and had five different drivers take the
lead before the winner was decided.Brad Pershy took the early lead with Mike
Baker taking over on a lap four restart. Two laps later the fifth and final
caution came out involving Baker and Pershy. On the restart Matt Irwin went to
the front with Jason Pershy taking over on lap eight. One lap later tenth place
starter, B.J. Jackson got by and held on to take the victory. Jason Pershy was
second followed by Ben Travers, Irwin and Max Leonard, in that order. Heat wins
went to Shawn Flagel and Baker.
Street Stock driver, Mike Driscoll won the heat race and then came back to lead
every lap of aathe feature. Jon Poll kept pressure on but had to settle for
second. Corey Booth, after bringing out a third lap caution came back to take
third with Wayne Hora fourth and Duane Rittmer fifth.
Pole sitter, Bart Miller led the first lap of athe V8 Modified feataure with the
other front row starter, Doug Crampton taking over on lap two. These two battled
with Crampton leading until lap thirteen when Miller edged back out front. On
lap fourteen Crampton went back out front, but on lap seventeen eighth place
starter, Andy Cook went by them both on his way to the win. Crampton and Miller
held on for second and third, respectively. John Bull was fourth with Ray Cox
Jr. fifth. Don Pataska, Bob Dominacki and Jeff Morris were the heat winners.
