Aikey scores Deery career win no. 46 at West Burlington

WEST BURLINGTON, Ia (April 22) ­ The fourth different winner in as many events in the 2006 Deery Brothers Summer Series added another trophy to his collection Saturday night at 34 Raceway.

Jeff Aikey scored career leading win number 46 in the tour for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at West Burlington, taking the lead on the 30th of 40 laps and driving to the $2,000 victory.

Rob Toland ran in front much of the way and ended the night in second while 14th starting Mark Preston¹s late charge landed him in third.

Rounding out the top five were Eric Gustaf and defending champion Terry Neal.

Gustaf started on the pole and led the first two times around the track before Toland, who had taken the initial green from outside row one, went low for the front spot.

Several cautions slowed the early going but Toland stayed at the point with Aikey close behind through midway. Third running Jay Johnson went to the pits with a flat tire on the 27th circuit.

Aikey finally made the higher line work, passing Toland three laps later.

Champion of the series in 1988, 1989, 1996 and 1999, Aikey now owns four checkered flag Deery runs at West Burlington.
With the national IMCA Sunoco Late Model point season getting underway next weekend, the Deery Series is idle until making its first ever visit to Highway 3 Raceway at Allison on Wednesday, May 24. Pit gates will open at 5:30 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

The tour returns to top billing at Boone Speedway¹s Super Nationals Warmup special on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. Gates open at 2 p.m., hot laps are at 4 p.m. and racing gets underway at 5 p.m.
