No drama this time as Neal dominates Boone Deery
BOONE, Ia (May 29, 2006) Terry Neal made a last lap pass to win last yearıs Deery Brothers Summer Series Memorial Day feature at Boone Speedway.
There was far less drama involved this time around.
Neal started on the pole and led from green to checkered in Monday eveningıs 40 lap Super Nationals Warm-up special for IMCA Sunoco Late Models. The win paid $2,000 and made the defending tour champion the first two time visitor to victory lane this season. Heıd also won April 15 at Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa.
Jeff Aikey maintained his spot atop the point standings after six events with a second place showing. Rob Toland, runner-up in the points race, was third and series rookie Kevin Tomlinson was fourth.
Mike Smith rounded out the top five.
Neal pulled away from the rest of the 24 car field from the start. The only caution of the night came on lap seven and Neal caught up with the back of the pack by midway.
Steering his way through lapped traffic that often ran three wide, Neal gradually padded his advantage over Aikey as the laps counted down, scoring his ninth career Deery win by half a straightaway.
Toland, Smith and sixth place finisher Darin Duffy each moved up five positions from their spots on the starting grid. Darrel DeFrance, ³B² feature winner Greg Kastli and Tom Darbyshire each advanced nine places, finishing seventh through ninth, respectively.
Mike Murphy Jr. took a provisional start, lining up last and ending 13th.
Next up on the Deery Series slate is the Wednesday, June 14 show at Buena
Vista Raceway in Alta. Pit gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. and
racing starts at 7:30 p.m.
