Preston Breaks through for Deery Win at Davenport

DAVENPORT, IA (April 20, 2007) - The long wait for Mark Preston is over. Preston finally picked up his first-ever IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series feature win. The victory was also his first late model win at the Davenport Speedway.

For the Rapid City, Ill. driver, the victory was the biggest win of his racing career and one that he could sense coming. "This car is no good on the bottom. I knew we'd be in good shape after the bottom was used up." Preston said after the win.

The 50-lap feature started with Fred Remley taking the early lead from the pole position. Remley led the single-file parade around the bottom until Rob Toland ventured up the racetrack and took the lead on lap 23. Preston moved under Toland on lap 31 and would lead the remaining circuits to take the win.

Mike Murphy Jr. of Colona, fell outside the top five in the early going, but came back strong to finish second. Boone McLaughlin ran a steady race to finish third. Toland and Remley sild back to take fourth and fifth respectively.

IMCA Deery late model heat races were dominated by local drivers. Heat wins went to Matt Ryan, Bob Toland, Mike Murphy Jr., Rob Toland and Andy Nezworski. Luke Goedert and Tom Darbyshire were semi-feature winners. Well over forty IMCA late models were on hand for the second Deery race of the year.

V-8 modifieds ran a 25-lap feature with Thad Wilson racing from his third row starting spot to take the win. Wilson had a sizeable lead over second place Doug Crampton at the checkers.

Bob Dominacki finished third with Brandon Durbin and Milo Veloz Jr. rounding out the top five. Wilson, Kevin Blum, and Chuck Hanna took heat race wins.

In other racing action, Jerry Pratt led flag to flag for the win in the street stock feature, while Chris Zogg won a caution-shortened B-Mod main.

Friday's race was the first of the 2007 season at the Davenport Speedway and was sponsored by Kriegers of DeWitt.

The IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series will compete Saturday night at the Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa. The next race at the Davenport Speedway will be Friday, April 27th, the Koehler Electric Season Opener.
