Series point lead accompanies Grady’s Boone Deery win
BOONE, Iowa (May 28) – The first two-time winner in the 2007 Deery Brothers
Summer Series left Boone Speedway as the new tour point leader as well.
Jeremy Grady topped the Memorial Day feature for IMCA Sunoco Late Models,
leading all 40 laps and earning $2,000 for his flag to flag efforts. Coupled
with Rob Toland’s early exit, the Story City speedster moved up a notch to take
over the top spot in the standings with five of 16 scheduled events in the book.
Jeff Bair chased Grady most of the night before taking runner-up honors.
Defending series champion Jeff Aikey was third, ahead of Hershel Roberts and
Luke Goedert.
Taking the lead from the pole, Grady kept his grip on the point following
re-starts on laps eight and 10, the second of which saw previous points leader
Toland head to the pits. Lapped cars figured at midway as Grady and the fourth
starting Bair encountered the backrunners, allowing much of the field to make up
real estate.
The front pair maneuvered through traffic, with Bair trying unsuccessfully to
sneak by on the inside line.
Bair did his best to stay close, but Grady got three lapped cars ahead of him
in the late going to seal the deal and win comfortably. He’ll take an eight
point edge over Boone McLaughlin to the rescheduled event Wednesday at Highway 3
Raceway in Allison, where hot laps are set for 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7
p.m.
Darrel DeFrance, Toland and Mark Preston round out the top five in points.
Grady had scored his first career Deery win on May 16 at Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Ill. Finishes by Bair, Roberts and Goedert were the best of their respective series careers.
Other IMCA winners during the holiday show at Boone were John Logue in the
Modifieds, Brett Meyer in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Mike
VanGenderen in the Stock Cars and Luke Wanninger in the Hobby Stocks.
