Neal banks top dollars at BVR Deery
ALTA, Iowa (June 13) – Terry Neal came home with runner-up money following the
first two Deery Brothers Summer Series events held at Buena Vista Raceway.
He took top dollars the third time around.
Neal moved quickly through the IMCA Sunoco Late Model field from his 13th starting spot, passing Rob Toland for the lead on the ninth circuit and running in front for the rest of Wednesday evening’s 35-lapper. Series points leader Jeremy Grady gave chase but couldn’t make up enough distance to challenge and wound up in second.
Boone McLaughlin and tour rookie Bobby Hansen rounded out the top four. Fifth
went to Darrel DeFrance, winner of the 2005 and 2006 races at Alta.
Neal banked $2,000 for the victory, his third of the season and career 15th.
Two cautions slowed the early going that saw pole starter Joe Zrostlik in front for the first five laps. Toland and Grady slipped by before Zrostlik straddled the backstretch wall and brought out the red flag.
Neal made his move to the front soon after the ensuing re-start, the last of the night. Toland, winner of the Tuesday feature at Park Jefferson Speedway, was running fourth before exiting with mechanical problems with four laps left.
Rounding out the winners on mid-season championship night at BVR were Joel Ziegmann in the Modifieds, Chris Abelson in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, David Smith in the Stock Cars and Luke Wanninger in the Hobby Stocks.
With eight of 16 scheduled races in the book, the next series event is the
Tuesday, June 19 show at Marshalltown Speedway. Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps
are at 7 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30 p.m. Northern SportMods are also on the
card.
