Deery Brothers Summer Series at Independence for July 3 holiday show INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 24) – An early holiday event is up next on the Deery Brothers Summer Series schedule, as IMCA J & J Steel Late Models travel to Independence Motor Speedway for a Thursday, July 3 show. The main event pays $2,000 to win and IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are also on the evening’s program. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 6:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and unaccompanied teens, $13 for seniors, $8 for students 12-17, $2 for kids and five and under are free. Pit passes are $25. More information will be available by calling 319 404-2153, or 319 334-9287 on race day. The pre-holiday show will be the 21st tour event held at Independence. Curt Martin leads all drivers with six series wins at his hometown track; Jeff Aikey of Waterloo and Gary Webb of Blue Grass have both won there twice. Opening night winner Todd Cooney of Des Moines has regained the series point lead heading to Indee, with Boone McLaughlin of Mediapolis in second. Just eight points separate Tom Darbyshire of Morning Sun, Andy Nezworski of Buffalo, Terry Neal of Ely, Justin Reed of Quincy, Ill., and Darrel DeFrance of Marshalltown in the race for third. Following Cooney to victory lane have been Mike Collins of Council Bluffs, Nezworski, Denny Woodworth of Quincy, Reed, Darbyshire and Neal. Different winners have won nine consecutive series races, including the last two in 2007. That’s the longest streak since 14 different drivers prevailed in consecutive events during the 1992 and 1993 seasons. |
