DAVENPORT, IA. (July 22) - Ray Guss Jr. captured the Deery Brothers Summer Series race held at the Davenport Speedway, Tuesday night. The IMCA Late Model victory was Guss' second Deery win at Davenport. The previous win came in 1999.

While Guss led 49 of the 50 laps, the finish was closer than the statistics would show. Justin Reed of Quincy, Ill., led the first lap after starting on the pole. Guss took control on lap two and immediately began to stretch the gap.

After cautions on laps 16 and 34, Guss would rocket out a sizeable lead. By the time the race's final caution flew on lap 44, Ray had company. Marty Diercks had been flying around the top edge of the track and went from seventh to second, in just 10 laps.

In the final laps the two would run side-by-side down the straightaways, with Guss going to the bottom in the corners and Diercks rim-riding the top. On the final lap, Diercks would find the crumbs and give Guss several car-lengths at the checkers.

Diercks took second, well ahead of third place Justin Reed. Darrell DeFrance and Andy Nezworski rounded out the top five.

Deery heats went to Matt Strasshiem, Guss, DeFrance, and Eric Gustaf. Joe rostlik and Kevin williams won the B-Mains.

In other racing action, Pat Fennelly won a spirited B-Mod main. Fennelly held off both Chris Stein and Kelly Meyer for the win. Stein would take second, followed by Meyer, Mike Fluegel, and Doug Burkhead, in that order.

Jeremy Marquette won the Street Stocks feature and Ricky Kay the 4 Stocks.
