Marshalltown hosts rescheduled Deery race Sept. 1

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 28) - The Deery Brothers Summer Series is on the road again next Tuesday, Sept. 1 for the rescheduled event at Marshalltown Speedway.

The IMCA Late Model tour will be joined on the midweek card by Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. The Deery feature will pay $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start and the purse has been upped for SportMods, who also race for national and Smiley's Racing Products State points.

All feature winners will receive two tickets to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Iowa Speedway.

Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Pit passes are $25.

Seeking his sixth career title, Jeff Aikey of Waterloo will bring a 41 point advantage over Jason Frankel of Quincy, Ill., into the 16th of 20 series races this season. Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, Ill., Terry Neal of Ely and Rob Toland of Davenport round out the top five.

Darrel DeFrance will enjoy a rare short tow to his hometown track and extend his perfect Deery attendance mark to 348 consecutive events.

Rained out from Aug. 19, the Marshalltown show is the first of five September dates on the Deery schedule.

The tour is at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson on Sept. 5, at Quincy Raceway on Sept. 6 and at Boone Speedway on Sept. 7 on opening night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals. 34 Raceway at West Burlington hosts the $10,000 to win Pepsi USA Nationals series finale on Sept. 18-19.
