25th Deery Series is guaranteed richest in IMCA Late Model tour history

VINTON, Iowa (Dec. 17) – The 25th annual Deery Brothers Summer Series is guaranteed to be the richest in the history of the IMCA Late Model tour.

Five of the 19 events on the 2011 schedule pay $3,000 or more to win. The biggest checks will be given at 34 Raceway’s $10,000 to win Pepsi USA Nationals Sept. 2-3 and at Farley Speedway’s $7,500 to win Yankee Dirt Track Classic on Sept. 16-17.

The inaugural Red Dralle Memorial at Independence Motor Speedway June 29 and the Sept. 23-24 series finale at Quad City Speedway both pay $5,000 to win. Top prize at the April 9 Brenton Slocum Memorial at 34 Raceway is $3,000.

“I think the success of this series over the past couple years has really helped convince promoters to increase purses or bring the series back to tracks it hasn’t been to for a while,” said Tour Director Kevin Yoder. “This is really an excellent schedule for drivers and fans alike to follow.”

Events paying $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start include the opening night show April 2 at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway and races April 10 at Quincy Raceway, April 15 at Davenport Speedway, April 16 at Jackson County Speedway, April 17 at Quad City, May 17 at Marshalltown Speedway, May 30 at Boone Speedway, June 7 at Farley, July 3 at Quincy, July 12 at West Liberty Raceway, July 26 at Knoxville Raceway, Aug. 2 at Cedar County Raceway, Aug. 15 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway and Sept. 5 at Boone.

The series has made just one previous appearance at West Liberty, in 1990. The two prior trips to Tipton and Cedar County were in 1996 and 1997. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will also be on the card for the Harris Clash program at Knoxville. The September show at Boone highlights first night action at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.

“Obviously, a lot of things are yet to be determined for the 25th anniversary season but those will be announced after details are finalized,” Yoder said. “We do know that special races will be held at each of the two-day events to showcase drivers who have supported the series and their weekly Late Model tracks.”

The Ironman Challenge is planned for the first night of the Pepsi USA Nationals. All drivers who have perfect series attendance coming into the night would be eligible to start the race.

A 25th anniversary race will start former Deery Series and Late Model national champions, as well as the current tour point leader, on opening night at the Yankee.

And a race of champions is in the works for Sept. 23 at Quad City. That field will be comprised of 2011 series feature winners and IMCA Late Model track champions.

“The list of drivers who have won Deery or national championships over the years is pretty distinguished. It’s impressive that a lot of them are still racing,” Yoder said. “I expect to see a number of them take the green flag in all three of these special races.”

RaceCEIVERS will be required at all series events next season. One change has been made to pre-race procedures, as the driver with the highest number from the initial draw will draw a second pill to determine the beginning of the heat stagger.

“That change adds another layer of chance to the draw,” explained Yoder. “It also eliminates the preconceived notion some drivers have that they draw poorly at every event.”
