Graham, Davis III, Moyer, Hagen, Bonnett, Wahlert
and Morrill
Win at Iowa State Fair Speedway
By David Wilkinson
DES MOINES, Iowa (April 14, 2006) - It was a record-breaking day in Des Moines
Friday with a high temperature of 86 degrees and a nice evening for racing at
the Iowa State Fair Speedway. Pat Graham won the IMCA modified feature, Bobby
Davis III captured the IMCA stock main, Kyle Wahlert prevailed in the IMCA
SportMods and Bret Moyer took the Cookies BBQ truck series main. IMCA hobby
stock feature winners were Adam Hagen and Adam Bonnett.
Pat Graham started in the front row and led all 15-laps of the IMCA modified
feature. He built a straightaway lead by the finish of the race that ran without
a caution. Todd Shute finished second, Greg Cox third, and Dave Farren Jr. was
fourth.
Steve Hill led all 15-laps of the IMCA stock car main and took the checkered far
ahead of Bobby Davis III. However, during technical inspection after the race,
Hill was disqualified for having an illegal carburetor. Davis III was placed in
first with Randy Killen second, Steve Jackson third, and Danny Hill fourth.
Kyle Wahlert, defending IMCA SportMod track champion, won the SportMod main with
Ryan Giles in second, Jacob Murray third and Bugs Vincent fourth. After the
race, Murray was disqualified for front axle weights and Vincent placed in
third.
In the fist IMCA hobby stock feature, Kevin Fee jumped into the early lead with
Greg Hower running second and Adam Hagen third. On a restart, Hagen made a big
move on the outside and passed both Fee and Hower to take the lead. At the
finish, it was Hagen winning followed by John Yaw Sr., Hower and Fee.
It took four times to get in one lap in the second IMCA hobby stock main. On the
third try, four cars tangled on the front stretch and cars went sliding
everywhere. Once the race started, it was dominated by Adam Bonnett who led the
entire race. Gary Stajcar finished second, Ray Stock Jr. third, and Bruce Wolfe
fourth.
Carl Moyer passed Michael Hoffman on the restart of the second lap to take the
lead in the Cookies BBQ Truck Series race. On lap ten of the 15-lap race, Bret
Moyer edged underneath Carl Moyer in turns one and two and led all the way to
the checkered. Carl Moyer finished second, Hoffman third, and Matt Waugh was
fourth.
Dwarf cars made a special appearance at the track and as usual Mike Morrill won.
The dwarf cars have raced ten times since 2004 and Morrill has won each race.
The public address system was down during part of the evening due a broken cord.
Racing continues next Friday evening featuring IMCA modifieds, stock cars, hobby
stocks, SportMods, and Cookies BBQ Truck Series. Hot laps are scheduled for 6:00
PM with racing following. IMCA late models begin their season on April 28th.
