THRASHER WINS FIRST EVER RACE
By Scott Watson
ELDON, IA (May 6, 2006) Sometimes it takes a driver several races before they
make it into the winners circle but that wasn't the case for Danny The Dude
Thrasher of Agency who picked up his first career feature win this past Saturday
night at The Eldon Raceway. Also making the trip to victory lane was Dale Porter
of Floris, Jim Brown of Fremont and Ken Bryant of Ottumwa on night number two of
the 2006 racing season which was sponsored by Boitnott Enterprises, Quality Air
Heating and Cooling, Libertyville Saving Bank and Professional Computer
Solutions.
Thrasher went to the lead of the Hobby Stock main event on the second lap and
built an almost- straightaway lead until a pack of four cars reeled him in
making it a five-car battle for the top spot the final two laps. Those five cars
diced it out with Thrasher coming out on top for his first win in just his sixth
career race. In a scramble to the the finish line Mark Wirth of Chariton came
across in second with Rocky Fosdyck of Selma in third just inches ahead of
Dennis Greenfield of Ottumwa in fourth.
Porter's win came in the 4-Banger division and it was a battle between he and
night number one's winner, Steve Williams of Fairfield. Porter and Williams
swapped the race lead numerous times during the eight-lap event with Porter
putting his orange and white number 31 to the lead for good with one lap
remaining. Williams tried to make one last passing attempt on the last lap but
was unable to get close enough to Porter and had to settle for the runner-up
spot. Travis Tedrow of Batavia had a solid third place finish while Jim Garrett
of Ottumwa tallied in fourth.
Brown went to the lead of the Stock Car feature on the first lap from his inside
second row starting position and led the field around the Super 1/2 Mile the
enitre 14-lap race for the victory. Dave Bennett of Bloomfield made several
passing attempts on Brown the first 10 laps but dropped back several car
lenghths when he spun in turn two but continued without causing a yellow flag.
Bennett finished in second with Leon McCombs of Knoxville in third and T.J.
Bainbridge of Eldon in fourth.
Bryant worked his way through the Modified field from his outside fourth row
starting position to the lead on the fourth circuit. Bryant would duke-it-out on
the track for the lead with Brandon Banks of Washington for sixlaps to seal the
deal. Bryant survived several restarts for his first victory at Eldon in 2006.
Banks finished in second place with Dennis Elliott of Mt. Ayr in third and Todd
Holman of Ottumwa in fourth.
Races resume this Saturday night with hot laps at 7 p.m. and races at 7:30.
