ELDON RACEWAY JULY 5TH CHECKERS GOTO GARRETT, MCDANIEL, UNDERWOOD, HUSTON AND FRAISE By: Tony Paris ELDON, IA (July 5) - The July 5th races at the Eldon Raceway was hotter than a firecracker with five great feature events with several new faces and some repeat winners in victory lane. The Wapello County Fairboard putting on the races for a Saturday night special and fireworks by KMGO 98.7 to cap off the night. In the hobby stock feature Jason McDaniel of Eldon visited victory lane again after holding off a great field of competitors with Danny Thrasher of Agency taking the second spot with Jimmy Hayes of Moravia and Donovan Nunnikhoven of Kellogg battling hard for the third spot with Nunnikhoven taking third after starting twelfth and Hayes taking fourth. The B-modified feature went to Paul Underwood of Ottumwa who also took the fair checkers and has fallen in love with the super-half mile with Gary Harward trying several times to take the lead from Underwood but on the final turn Harward going into the corner to hot and would spin his machine with Brandyn Martin of Eldon taking the second spot followed by Rick Krueger of Sigourney in third and Jared Miller of Des Moines in fourth. The mini-stock feature saw another driver visiting for the second time Jim Garrett of Ottumwa taking the lead with six laps remaining from Bill Whalen Jr. of Riverside who had mechanical problems ending his run. John Whalen of Ainsworth taking the second spot along with Cody Cook of Ottumwa in third and Steve Williams of Hedrick in fourth and Kevin Garrett of Bloomfield in fifth. The Mid-America 305 Winged sprints took the green flag with Tasker Phillips and Louis Lynch on the front row but the red flag would fly for Phillips machine in turn three. This would restart the fifteen lap main event with Louis Lynch and Chad Huston battling for the lead with Huston taking the lead and built a nice size lead before the caution flag flew for Patrick Long spinning in turn four. On the restart Josh Padellford of Pleasantville would get and nice restart and take over the second spot from Lynch with Huston still leading. Another caution would close the field up after Marty Stephenson of Mitchellville spun in turn one. This would setup a four lap shootout with Huston hanging on for the win over Padellford with Lynch in third and Bob Lamb of Mitchellville in fourth. The A-modified feature would bring the crowd to it’s feet several times with Colt Mather of Webster and Tony Fraise of Donnellson swapping the lead several times with Fraise topping a stellar field of competitors to pocket the winnings with Mather taking a close second followed by Ron Verbeek of Oskaloosa holding off Brandon Banks of Washington who took fourth. Racing action will be idle this week at the Eldon Raceway and return July 19th for a regular night of action promoted by R & J Promotion.
