BROWN, COX, FISHER AND MCDANIEL TAKE ELDON RACEWAY CHECKERS
By: Tony Paris
ELDON, IOWA (May 22, 2010) - The Wapello County Fair Board held it’s first
of five races at the historical fairgrounds with seventy-one cars coming to
try there luck at super half-mile. Two of the four winners were local
hometown drivers that love to support the home track and one of the drivers
scoring a feature win since 1992.
The first feature of the night was the b-modified division with eighteen
cars taking the green flag and local driver Jason McDaniel of Eldon taking
the green and leading all fourteen laps and holding off several challenges
from Andrew Schroeder of Keswick for the win. Eric Fullenkamp made his
return in the familiar number twelve machine and took home the runner-up
spot with Mike Wanders of Oskaloosa in third and Rocky Fosdyck of Floris in
fourth.
The second feature of the night was the four cylinder division with Dennis
Allen of Agency leading the field to the green. A great battle for the top
four spots with two and three wide racing and Mike Fisher of Blakesburg
taking the lead and took the win. Bill Whalen Jr. of Riverside took the
runner-up spot after making the pass on Larry Hopkins of Ottumwa who took
the third spot and Jim Garrett of Ottumwa in fourth.
The third feature of the night was the B-modified division with Mark Widmar
of Ottumwa leading the field to the green and paced the field for the first
five laps before Greg Cox of Altoona made for some good side-by-side racing
and Cox made the pass on lap seven and lead the final seven laps for the
win. Widmar finished in the second spot followed by Brandon Banks of
Washington who had problems in the heat race but made the repairs and took
home the third spot in the feature. The fourth spot went to Tyler Vandekamp
of Ankeny.
The final feature of the night was the hobby stock division with
twenty-seven cars checked into the pit area. When the green flag dropped
Eldon driver Craig Brown paced the field all fourteen laps and several
cautions for different incidences and even a red flag for Trevor Tanner of
Russell who’s machine rolled on the front stretch on lap nine on a restart.
Brown would lead the final five laps for his first visit to victory lane
sine 1992 and did it with a different brand.
Brown won in a ford mustang in 1992 and a Chevrolet in 2010.
Mark your calendar for Thursday June 17th for car racing at the Wapello
County Regional Fair in Eldon with hot laps at 7:00PM and racing action at
7:30PM with all four classes in action.
