LANDON CASSILL BREAKS HAWKEYE DOWNS RECORD
by: Brad Grupe
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (May 2, 2006) - After consulting the appropriate records,
Hawkeye Downs Speedway officials are pleased to announce that on Friday, April
28, 2006 a new one-lap track record was established in the Performance Concepts
ASA Late Model Division.
Landon Cassill of Fairfax, IA turned a lap of 18.499 seconds during qualifying
to set the new mark for the ½ mile asphalt track. The lap translates to a speed
of just over 97 mph.
The previous record for an ASA Late Model was 18.915 seconds was held by Kris
Stump of Stoughton, WI and was set during a race last September.
Officials also noted that some other Hawkeye Downs drivers have recorded laps in
the 18.6- 18.9 second range during the past year but that those laps may have
come during practice and not during a recorded qualifying session.
Jeff King, Cedar Rapids, edged out Cassill for the win in the Performance
Concepts ASA Late Model feature on Friday night, winning by a scant .006
seconds.
