by: Brad Grupe
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (May 15, 2006) - After a week off thanks to the weather,
Hawkeye Downs Speedway fans, drivers, sponsors and officials are eager to get
back to business as usual. Persistent showers and a dismal forecast forced the
cancellation of last Friday night’s program at Hawkeye Downs.
All six divisions will be in action Friday night for “Altorfer Cat Night” and
the rescheduled “100.7 The Fox Free Race.”
Race fans can still pick up free tickets during regular business hours at
Hawkeye Harley Davidson, Hiway 965 & I-80 in Coralville, KXIC/KKRQ Studios,
corner of Dubuque Street and I-80 in Iowa City and at WMT Studios on Collins
Road in Cedar Rapids. For more information on locations consult the 100.7 The
Fox website at www.thefox.net or tune in to 100.7.
For those that are unable to obtain free tickets regular tickets will be sold on
race night as usual.
Scott Wennermark leads the points chase in Performance Concepts Late Models,
holding a one point lead over Jeff King and Kyle Hinrichs. Landon Cassill and
Curt Van Der Wal are close behind, just 3 points behind the leader Wennermark.
In Budweiser Sportsmen, Andy Duggan has the lead with Martin Ballard just four
points back, in second. Ross Zumbach and Brian Franks sit in third, five points
behind the leader.
The Miller Time Modified point battle is close also with Tim Plummer riding the
top of the chart. Arlo Becker and Jim Hanson are tied just two points behind
Plummer. Last week’s feature winner, Griffin McGrath is a scant four points
behind the leader.
Brad Dvorak leads the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars holding a four point
margin over Randy Filling and Logan Hale. Bob Ahrendsen is in the thick of the
battle six points behind the leader.
The other IMCA division, the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks, shows Tim
Dains with a three point cushion over Rodney Grother and Terry Shaffar. Kandi
Floyd site just 6 points behind the leader heading into week three. Dains is the
only repeat winner in any division this season.
Creston Williams holds a three point margin over Nathan Ballard in the Sunline
Hornets. Roy Parker is in third, seven points back. That division, together with
the Hobby Stocks, make up the Full Throttle Energy Drink Stars of Tomorrow
Series at Hawkeye Downs.
