LATE MODELS, MID-SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR MOST DIVISIONS THIS FRIDAY POINT RACES REMAIN TIGHT AT MID-POINT OF SEASON

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (June 26) -  Mike McGrath presents the rescheduled Mid-Season Championships at ASA-Sanctioned Hawkeye Downs Speedway on Friday night, June 29. Rain forced postponement of this event last Friday.

The Performance Concepts Late Models will make their second appearance of the season Friday night running qualifying and at least a thirty lap feature, depending on car count.

Budweiser Sportsmen, Miller Time Modifieds, Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks, and IMCA Sportmods will all be action Friday night with drivers competing for Mid-Season Championship trophies in each division. Races will consist of heats and features with extra laps added to the features.

The Sunline Hornets, who are not on the schedule Friday night will have their mid-season championship event on July 6.

Looking at the point races, which are part of the Papa Johns Cup/ I- Wireless Championships, David McCalla holds a six-point edge over Andy Duggan in the Budweiser Sportsmen. McCalla has four trips to Coca-Cola Victory Lane and Andy Duggan has one. Bob Ahrendsen sits in third, thirteen points behind
McCalla.

Defending champion Tim Plummer has three feature wins so far this season and has a four point lead over Arlo Becker and Chad Willett in the Miller Time Modifieds. Becker has one feature win and Willett has two in the first half of the season.

Moving to the quarter-mile divisions, Doug Otto and Bob Ahrendsen are tied at the top of the point chart in the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars. Next in line is Kurt Bohnsack just one point behind the co-leaders. Bohnsack leads in wins with three checkered flags to his credit while Otto has a victory also.

Tim Dains has the biggest point lead among the six divisions in competition Friday night as he has an eight point cushion over Gary Pfantz in the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks. Dennis Klinsky is next in line, 12 points behind the leader.


Although, they have been relatively few in numbers so far this season, the IMCA Sportmods points race remains close as well. Four different drivers have visited victory lane so far this season. Tony Olson holds a one point lead over Ryan Luedtke and Arnie Reif who are tied for second. Olson and Luedtke have each notched two wins while Reif has one.

The action kicks off at 6pm Friday night when Grandstand gates open and practice gets underway. The first green flag waves shortly after 7pm.

Admission prices remain the same as they have been the past few years. Children (0-11) are $1.00; Students (12-17) are $7.00; Adults (18-61) are $10.00; and Senior Citizens (62+) are admitted for $7.00.
