RELIEF THIS FRIDAY NIGHT
BY: Brad Grupe
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (May 27) - Van Meter Industrial and Hawkeye Downs Speedway
have teamed up for “Fast Lane Friday” coming up on Friday night May 29 at
Cedar Rapids’ Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Fans can attend the races for just a
$1.00 donation for flood relief (18 years and older). Children are free but
donations for everyone attending are welcome. While a $1.00 donation is all
that’s required to get in the gate, larger donations are welcome.
Van Meter Industrial has been employee-owned since 2005 and has thirteen
branch locations throughout the state of Iowa in addition to its Central
Distribution Center, Technical Support Center, and PT Support center located
in Cedar Rapids.
Join Cedar Rapids’ “employee-owned” Van Meter Industrial and Hawkeye Downs
for a fun & exciting night of racing while helping raise money for the local
flood relief and recovery efforts in Linn County.
100% of financial donations to the fund will support non-profit
organizations in Linn County with ongoing recovery efforts throughout the
Cedar Rapids metro area and surrounding communities. All donations will be
given to the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation Flood 2008 Fund.
Fans of all ages can also attend the Van Meter Fast Lane Friday Post-Race
Party at Tavern on the Mall at Hawkeye Downs following the races. That event
features local band “Sound as a Pound” providing entertainment. Sound as a
Pound is a five-piece band playing Rock, Funk, and Blues.
Grandstand Gates open at 6pm with Racing at 7pm.
Race Fans should also make plans to join Van Meter Industrial for
