HAWKEYE DOWNS DRIVERS READY TO DO THEIR PART FOR FLOOD RELIEF THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (May 27) - Seven divisions of racing are scheduled for Van Meter Industrial Fast Lane Friday Night at the Races this Friday night, May 29 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. The drivers are eager to entertain fans with some great racing in support of Flood Relief. Race Fans can join Cedar Rapids’ “employee-owned” Van Meter Industrial and Hawkeye Downs for a fun & exciting night of racing while helping raise money for the local flood relief and recovery efforts in Linn County.

Fans can attend the races for just a $1.00 donation for flood relief (18 years and older). Children are free but donations for everyone attending are welcome and donations larger than the $1.00 “adult admission” are welcome as well.

100% of fan donations will support non-profit organizations in Linn County with ongoing recovery efforts throughout the Cedar Rapids metro area and surrounding communities. All donations will be given to the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation Flood 2008 Fund.

Miller Lite Late Models will be running as part of the program with Cedar Rapids own Landon Cassill returning “home” to race the #61 Port City Race Cars Chevy Impala. Johnny Spaw holds a three-point edge over Thor Anderson in points in that division coming into Friday night. Each have one a feature this season.

Other half-mile divisions in action Friday night are the Budweiser Mid-Am Sportsmen and Coors Light Modifieds. Dave McCalla, Andy Duggan, and Michael Weber are tied at the top of the points chart in Sportsmen while Tim Plummer sits in first in the Modifieds with Craig bender just one point back.

On the quarter-mile, Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Sunline Hornets, IMCA SportMods, and Two-Man Cruisers are all slated for action.

Kurt Bohnsack has a two-point margin over Bob Ahrendsen in Stock Cars after two events. Scott Kositzky has the early lead in IMCA SportMods after one event that division.

In the interest of fair and spirited competition, Hornet points are not regularly published. Features have been won by Nathan Chandler and Jim Hanson in the first two events for that division.

Fans of all ages can also attend the Van Meter Fast Lane Friday Free Post-Race Party at Tavern on the Mall at Hawkeye Downs following the races. That event features local band “Sound as a Pound” providing entertainment. Sound as a Pound is a five-piece band playing Rock, Funk, and Blues. Beverages will be available for purchase.

Grandstand Gates open at 6pm with Racing at 7pm.
