HAWKEYE DOWNS’ SEASON MARCHES ON WITH COCA-COLA NIGHT THIS FRIDAY

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (August 18) — The 2009 racing season continues at Hawkeye Downs Speedway this Friday night as long-time sponsor Coca-Cola presents racing in six divisions.

Miller Lite Late Models and Coors Light Modifieds will battle it out on the Hawkeye Downs half-mile while Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks, IMCA Northern SportMods, and Sunline Hornets will race on the quarter-mile.

With five more races in the 2009 Papa Johns Pizza/ I-Wireless Championship Series most point races remain tight.

Joey Gase continues to lead the way in Miller Time Late Models with a relatively comfortable margin over Thor Anderson. The battle for second is much closer with Anderson leading Johnny Spaw by one point and Brad Osborn by four points. Jim Ross currently sits in fifth position.

The Coors Light Modified race continues to be very tight with Larry Clausen holding a three point edge over defending champion Tim Plummer. Ryan Luedtke and Arlo Becker are tied for third while Steve Lindell is in fifth.

In Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Kurt Bohnsack holds a narrow three-point cushion over Cory Houdek. Bob Ahrensdsen is third with Brian Beaty and Dave Ballstaedt rounding out the top five.

Scott Siems continues to lead the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks but Nathan Ballard has been closing in over the past few weeks and is just four points off the lead. Roland Bohnsack is third, Duayne Herb is next in fourth, and Jeremy Robbins is fifth.

Scott Kositzky continues to lead the IMCA Northern SportMods and has an eight-point margin over Blake Carson. Ken Kositzky, Creston Williams, and Tim Dains make up the rest of the top five.

While exact points are not released, Nathan Chandler sits atop the Sunline Hornets with Shane Hanson and Jim Hanson next in line.


The action kicks off at 7pm Friday night with pre-race ceremonies, including the introduction of the 1600ESPN/KGYM Driver of the Week. Grandstand Gates open at 6pm.
Adult Grandstand Admission is $10, Seniors/Students are $7, and Children are just $1. Pit Passes are $25 for regular events.
