Deery Series departs dirt for Aug. 9 date at The Downs
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (Aug. 1, 2006) – IMCA Sunoco Late Model drivers following
the Deery Brothers Summer Series leave the dirt behind for their next show, set
for Wednesday, Aug. 9 on the half mile paved oval at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in
Cedar Rapids.
Mike Smith of Jewell owns three career tour wins at Hawkeye Downs, including
victories in 2004 and 2005. Waterloo’s Jeff Aikey, who shares the series points
lead with Rob Toland of Bettendorf, is another three time winner at the CR
speedplant, taking consecutive checkers from 1997-1999.
Top prize in the main event is $2,000, with a minimum of $300 paid to qualify
for the 24 car starting field.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m., hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.
Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $1 for kids 11
and under who are accompanied by a paying adult.
IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks are also on the midweek card, along with
non sanctioned hornets and B modifieds. The B mods will qualify for a feature
to be held during the regular weekly program on Aug. 11.
The Deery Series returns to dirt for the last six of 17 events on the 2006
schedule, starting Aug. 14 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway in Des Moines.
Late Models will be joined by IMCA Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods on Aug. 15
when Marshalltown Speedway makes up the show rained out and rescheduled from
last month.
Four dates follow the end of the division’s weekly point season, starting
Sunday, Sept. 3 at Quincy, Ill., Raceway. The Deery program headlines opening
night at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals at Boone Speedway on Monday,
Sept. 4, then heads to Quad City Speedway in East Moline, Ill., Sunday, Sept. 10
for the 300th event in series history.
The 20th annual tour concludes Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15-16 with the $10,000
to win Pepsi USA Nationals at 34 Raceway in West Burlington.
