Winston Speedway adds IMCA Crate Models, Northern SportMods,
Stock Cars next season
by: Bill Martin
WINSTON, MO. (Nov. 15, 2006) – Three more IMCA divisions have been added to
weekly programs next season at Winston Speedway.
The 3/8 mile dirt track will become the first Show Me State speedplant to
sanction the Crate Model and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod classes. Track
officials had announced in September that they’d run IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars as
well in 2007.
“SportMods are an economical class of race cars. I believe they’ll take a lot of
money out of what it takes to be competitive,” promoter Gene Stigall said. “Our
late model drivers knew we needed something different and wanted the crate motor
class. It might be tough for a year or two, but we’re going to do everything we
can to make it work and when guys see they can put $3,000 into a motor and win,
I think they’re going to like it.”
“What I like best about the Stock Car division,” he added, “are the rules and
that our drivers will be able to race for IMCA points.”
Sanctioned Modifieds had returned to Saturday shows at Winston in 2005.
Winston Speedway is in IMCA’s SuperFlow Central Region for Modifieds and Jet
Racing Northern Region for Stock Cars.
Opening night will be in early April.
