Interstate Speedway sanctions four IMCA divisions next season
JEFFERSON, S.D. (Dec. 14) – The IMCA flag will fly again at Interstate Speedway
next season, with four sanctioned divisions headlining Sunday night shows.
Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks return to the 3/10 mile high banked black
gumbo speedplant, while Interstate joins Park Jefferson Speedway in becoming the
first tracks in South Dakota to feature the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod
class.
“IMCA is very strong in this area and our drivers like racing for national and
regional points, as well as contingency awards,” promoter Greg Golden said. “The
rules are the same from coast to coast and it’s good to be associated with a
sanctioning body that I can call and get help from when different situations
come up.”
Golden was co-promoter at Interstate from 1996-2002 and returned to the helm
there last year.
“I kind of grew up here,” he said. “I’ve probably been coming to this track
since I was two or three years old when my dad was racing, and I started racing
here in 1984. Interstate has gotten the nickname ‘The Action Track’ and it
definitely lives up to that.”
Post season grading on the racing surface was finished in November. Golden is
now working indoors and door to door, getting the track website up and selling
advertising.
Drivers and fans alike will find Interstate easier on their budget in 2007, with
admission to the pits rolled back to $15 and adult grandstand tickets back to
$8. Kids 12 and under still get into the grandstand at no charge.
Opening night is set for April 22, with points races continuing through Aug. 26.
Modifieds at Interstate will be part of IMCA’s SuperFlow North Central Region.
Stock Cars are in the Jet Racing Northern Region.
IMCA Modifieds and Hobby Stocks last ran at Interstate in 2005. Sanctioned Stock
Cars were part of the weekly program there during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
