Buena Vista Raceway debuts Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods
at Frostbuster special
ALTA, Iowa (Jan. 8, 2007) – A fourth IMCA division will be added to Wednesday
night programs this season at Buena Vista Raceway.
Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods join sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars and
Hobby Stocks running at Alta, beginning with the Friday, March 30 Frostbuster
Chassis Challenge special.
“I firmly believe this division is the wave of the future,” promoter Lee Meyer
said. “When I looked at the number of drivers we already had in our B modified
class and the other area tracks that have already decided to run the SportMods,
I decided the timing was right for us.”
BVR is the fourth area track to add the Northern SportMods for 2007.
The class will also run Fridays at Blackbird Bend Motorsports Speedway in Onawa,
Saturdays at Park Jeffer son Speedway and Sundays at Interstate Speedway, both
in Jefferson, S.D.
Thirty six different B modified drivers raced at least once last season at Buena
Vista and Meyer figured most of the drivers in the top 24 in points would be
competing at least once a weekend at Blackbird Bend, Park Jefferson or
Interstate this year.
“I think our sanction is going to provide another opportunity for drivers to be
in the hunt for national championships,” he said. “I’m kind of excited about
that.”
Buena Vista Raceway becomes the 10th track to announce plans to sanction
Northern SportMods beginning this year. The class ran weekly at six tracks in
Iowa and Wisconsin last season.
National and Smiley’s Racing Products state points will be awarded in all four
IMCA divisions at the Frostbuster. Regional and local track points will be added
to the mix beginning with the regular season opener April 11 and running through
Aug. 29.
