North, South regions new for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks

VINTON, Iowa (Jan. 18) – IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock drivers will chase new championships this season.

Northern and Southern regions have been established for the division, drawn along the same geographic lines as the two IMCA Sunoco Stock Car regions.

“We’re at the point in terms of the number of our sanctioned tracks and licensed drivers that it makes sense to add a third tier of recognition for Hobby Stocks,” said IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root. “It gives drivers a new accomplishment to shoot for.

That’s especially true in the South, where it would give drivers now competing in non sanctioned classes the opportunity to race for more than a local track title.”

Separate point funds will be created for both regions. Title sponsorships and required decal placement(s) will be announced when details become final.

“Historically, we have tried to keep the Hobby Stocks as basic as possible. There was not even a national point fund for the class five years ago,” Root said. “Regional championships are another way we can recognize drivers in that division.”

Rookies of the year will also be named in both regions.

IMCA Modified drivers have competed for regional crowns since 1993.

Stock Car regions were introduced in 2001, while Northern and Southern divisions for SportMods were started in 2005.
