GM bonuses go to top IMCA Northern SportMod drivers who competed with crate engines in 2007 GRAND BLANC, Mich. (Feb. 8) – GM Performance Parts bonuses totaling $12,850 will be paid to IMCA Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod drivers who competed with crate engines during the 2007 race season. Thirty-two different drivers from 15 sanctioned tracks will get checks, mailed today from the IMCA home office. National champion Chris Abelson, the top driver in point standings at Buena Vista Raceway and Park Jefferson Speedway and runner-up at Blackbird Bend Motorsports Speedway, will deposit the biggest share of bonus money, a tidy $1,500. “The number of drivers competing with crate engines has increased five-fold from just a couple years ago, while the number of tracks sanctioning Northern SportMods grew from four to 16 in the same period,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “GM has increased their investment along with the growth of the division and has now paid bonuses to drivers with crate engines for three years.” By track and finishing position in point standings, bonus amounts paid to Northern SportMod drivers include: Benton County Speedway – 1. Tony Olson, $500; 3. Jim Buhlman, $250; 4. Kyle Olson, $150. Blackbird Bend Motorsports Speedway – 2. Chris Abelson, $500; 4. Harvey VandeWeerd, $250; 5. R.J. Merchant, $150. Boone Speedway – 1. Scott Davis, $500; 4. Rick Ringgenberg, $250. Buena Vista Raceway – 1. Abelson, $500; 2. VandeWeerd, $250; 3. Tony Pogeler, $150; 5. Jeremie Gibbs, $50; 6. Merchant, $50. Hawkeye Downs Speedway – 1.
