Three IMCA divisions return to Sherman County Speedway GOODLAND, Kan. (March 7) – Three IMCA divisions are back on the track this season at Sherman County Speedway. Sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks all return to Goodland for the first time since the 1990s. Opening night is set for April 19, with point races for each class scheduled through the Sept. 26-27 Flatlanders’ Fall Classic. “This will be a good place for more drivers to race for IMCA points, especially the last weekend of the season when they’re hoping to move up a place or two in national or regional standings,” noted Robert Lamb, president of the Sherman County Stock Car Racing Association. Modified points earned at Sherman County apply in IMCA’s Central Region and Stock Car and Hobby Stock points in Jet Racing Northern Regions for their respective divisions. “Goodland has an established program and helps bridge the geographical gap between sanctioned tracks in eastern Colorado and central Kansas,” said IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root. New catch fencing and barriers will be installed before the first event. Anticipating increased car counts and grandstand attendance throughout the season, Lamb also expects good numbers of competitors and fans to be on hand when the Blood, Sweat and Tears Series for Modifieds comes to town. The regular July 5 show will not be held should the town’s Independence Day celebration be rained out and rescheduled; rain date for the Fall Classic is Sept. 28. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks last ran at Goodland in 1996, the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in 1997 and the IMCA Modifieds in 1999. |
