Beatrice primed to host 15th annual Spring Nationals BEATRICE, Neb. (March 12) – All systems are go for this weekend’s Spring Nationals. The March 13-15 special at Beatrice Speedway sports three main events for IMCA Modifieds, which double as a Blood, Sweat and Tears Series opening tripleheader. Features are also on tap for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts. Early entries included more than 80 Modifieds who will vie for national, Central Region and Smiley’s Racing Products state points during the 15th annual event. An open practice runs from 5:30-9 p.m. Thursday for all classes. Mandatory tech inspection begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, when racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m. First heat races will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Modified features pay $1,000 to win on Friday, $1,500 to win on Saturday and $2,000 to win on Sunday, making all three events qualifiers for the 2008 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. All Modified drivers are guaranteed $75 a day in tow money. Saturday’s Northern SportMod feature pays $500 to win. The Hobby Stock feature on Sunday also pays $500 to win. Top prize in Sunday’s Sport Compact main event is $200. “Promoter Toby Kruse and his staff will do everything they can to run events as scheduled and avoid canceling any of the three shows,” said IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root. “So many drivers are coming from so many different states and we don’t want to send them home without giving them the chance to race. Fortunately, there are a number of different rescheduling options if one program is rained out, or if it looks like the weather is going to be too wet or too cold to race.” In a worse case scenario, should the entire special fall to weather, Spring Nationals would not be rescheduled. The Frost Fest at Elmwood Park Speedway in Norton, Kan., is March 22, the day before Easter, and the Ice Breaker Challenge at Eagle Raceway is March 29-30. |
