Aztec, McCook ink 5-year pacts to sanction with IMCA

VINTON, Iowa (May 1) – Two more tracks have returned contracts to sanction with IMCA for five seasons.

Aztec, N.M., Speedway and McCook, Neb., Speedway will feature IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in weekly programs through 2012.

Aztec will also run Southern SportMods, McCook the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

McCook promoter Chuck Gray emphasized the Red Willow County Fair Board’s support of the long-term pact.

“We decided to go for it and let everybody know we’d be sanctioned for the next five years,” he said. “We have been very happy with IMCA and our drivers like that they don’t have to change their cars to race at other tracks in the area.”

An announcement on the contract was made during the April 18 show at McCook. Drivers at Aztec are getting letters from promoter Tre Brewbaker.

“This helps us lay out the groundwork for what we’re going to do the next five years,” Brewbaker said. “Drivers will know what they have to do to be IMCA legal when they build a car and that any changes will be minimal, and that will help us build our car counts up.”

Crystal, Mich., Motor Speedway became the first track with a five- year contract, for Modifieds, in 2007.

“Long-term contracts send a message that tracks have the best interest of their drivers in mind,” said IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root. “Drivers can build cars knowing they’ll be able to race them at these tracks for at least five years.”
