IMCA gets specific with fuel cell location for Late Models

VINTON, IA (Jan. 8) - A specific location for the fuel cell is now spelled out in 2009 rules for IMCA's Late Model division.

Fuel cells must be between the rear end housing and the back bumper. Rules announced last fall stated that fuel cells should be as far forward as possible.

"There is some confusion as to what is allowed and what is not allowed. Some chassis manufacturers are moving fuel cells ahead of the rear end housing," IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. "Every year, manufacturers look for ways to give their cars an advantage. We deal with this situation across the board in every sanctioned division. This year, we're in the position where it is necessary to clarify the rule for the Late Models and make sure the fuel cell remains in the same location on all cars."

The rule on fuel cell location will be in effect for regular weekly shows as well as the Deery Brothers Summer Series..

"All our other divisions have a similar rule. Late Models were the only division with this problem, although it had the potential to trickle down to the Modifieds and SportMods," said Root. "We had the same problem previously with our Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks and addressed it last season."
The clarification has already been made to rules posted on the IMCA website.
