Icon awards are new for IMCA Modified, SportMod drivers
CARSON CITY, Nev. (Jan. 23) – Modified and SportMod drivers are in the
running this season for contingencies from new IMCA sponsor Icon Forged
Racing Pistons.
The Carson City, Nev., company manufactures a newly-introduced line of high
performance pistons and will give piston sets and $5,250 in product
certificates to competitors in the Modified, Southern SportMod and Karl
Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions.
All five Modified regional champions and both SportMod national champions
will receive sets of Icon pistons.
Runners-up in the Modified regions and the SportMod national ranks get $300,
with $200 for third, $150 for fourth and $100 for fifth.
Icon becomes part of the national decal program for Modifieds and drivers in
that division will be required to display two decals on their race car to be
eligible for post-season prizes.
Four-time national champion, Modified career wins leader and long- time
customer David Murray Jr. and Chris Bragg both did on-track testing for the
company last year.
“We’re really excited about this program and looking forward to this
season,” said Icon’s Tom Purcell. “The word is out there that these pistons
are good and we’re going to make a full-on effort in getting into the top
level of dirt track racing.”
A trip to Boone Speedway and the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals last
September cemented Purcell’s belief that a contingency program with IMCA was
a logical next step.
“We’d never seen anything like it before. It was unbelievable,” he said.
“The sheer numbers in the classes are just amazing.”

"We have had a relationship with parent company United Engine & Machine in
the past, but it has been many years since we have had the pleasure of
working with them,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “We are
excited to help them market the Icon Forged Piston name and anticipate a
partnership that will last well into the future of both companies."
