Three IMCA divisions run at South Dakota’s Raceway Park
JEFFERSON, S.D. (Feb. 3) – Drivers in three divisions will chase IMCA points
at a different South Dakota venue this season.
Raceway Park at Jefferson opens on April 19, with Sunday programs featuring
the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA
Sunoco Hobby Stocks continuing through Sept. 6.
New owner Tom Reed and promoter Ron Jensen are also looking at a handful of
Friday night events, contingent on schedules at other area tracks.
“There are a lot of SportMod and Stock Car drivers in the area who will be
able to race here for points,” Jensen said. “We had very good car counts of
14-16 Hobby Stocks last year and we hope to see even better numbers because
of drivers chasing points.”
Stock Cars and Hobby Stock points earned at Raceway Park will apply in the
Jet Racing Northern Region for the respective divisions.
Idle for all of 2007, the former Interstate Speedway hosted a full schedule
of non-sanctioned races last year.
Bleachers were rebuilt before the first green flag of 2008. Plans for the
upcoming season include completion of permanent restroom facilities,
construction of an infield concession stand and installing new scales in the
infield.
Jensen, a two-time Hobby Stock track championship at Jefferson during his
own racing career, also said purses would be maintained from 2008, and that
drivers would be paid after each 2009 race program is completed.
