IMCA Modifieds returning to Davenport, Jackson County
DAVENPORT, IA (Feb. 26) – A sanctioned division not seen at Davenport
Speedway or at Jackson County Speedway since the early years of Ronald
Reagan’s presidency returns to both Eastern Iowa race tracks this season.
IMCA Modifieds will run Fridays on the ¼-mile dirt oval at Davenport
beginning April 24 and on Saturdays at Maquoketa’s 3/8-mile clay oval
starting the next night.
Both tracks are promoted by Bob Wagener. Sanctioned Modifieds last ran at
Maquoketa for a full season in 1981 and at Davenport in 1982.
“These tracks were also among the first to run ‘B’ modifieds way back when.
We started with a 4-cylinder class at Maquoketa in 1996,”
Wagener said. “The class has grown to the point where it fits right in with
the IMCA Modifieds.”
The biggest change drivers will have to make in switching to IMCA, he noted,
would be the required use of Hoosier tires.
“I like the uniformity of the rules and the point fund money our drivers
will be eligible for,” Wagener said. “I think sanctioning the Modifieds is a
good way to help both tracks grow.”
An existing pro mod class will remain on the weekly card at each venue, he
added.
Modified points earned at both tracks apply in IMCA’s ButlerBuilt North
Central Region. Season championship night races for Modifieds and IMCA Late
Models will be Aug. 28 at Davenport and Aug. 29 at Jackson County.
